Treating acne scars can be tough, not only because they are difficult to erase totally but also because acne scars bring you such embarrassment and social anxiety. Facial scars can have a profound effect on your confidence and social life. The sooner these scars are healed, the better off you will be.
But is it possible to remove acne scars naturally?
The answer is YES. But just like any other goal worth pursuing, there are no shortcuts, no easy way out, no magic cures.
Here are the top natural remedies for acne scars that you can try at home. You don’t have to use all of them at once. Just pick at least one particular remedy that you like, then stick to it:
That white powdery substance you’ve been hiding in your cupboard actually has a lot of health benefits and uses. Among these health benefits is the ability to exfoliate skin and pave the way for a smoother, healthier skin.
Here’s how to use baking soda on your face and on the location of the scar:
- Mix a few teaspoons of baking soda in water. Make sure the ratio of baking soda to water will be able to create a thick paste.
- Apply the baking soda “paste” on the area of the scar and around it
- Let it sit for around 5 minutes
- Rinse your face with warm water
Will this remove acne scars immediately? No. But over time, if you try the baking soda consistently, you can see a dramatic improvement until you gradually remove the scars.
Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer and promotes speedy repair of your skin, leading to dramatic acne scars removal. The way to use this is to apply some virgin coconut oil on the scarred areas of your face. Allow your facial skin to soak in the coconut oil by not washing your face with water for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, you may opt to wash your face with lukewarm water, or you may decide to just let the skin absorb the coconut (without rinsing your face). If you find it uncomfortable to put on some coconut oil in the daytime before going to work, then apply it on your face at night before you sleep and don’t wash it until daytime. This will give your body some overnight “help” in repairing damaged skin while you sleep.
In a previous article about home scar treatment, I shared how I used lemon or orange peel to cure the scars on my hands and feet. But aside from using lemon peel, you can also use the actual lemon juice for the removal of acne scars! Here’s what to do:
First, squeeze the juice out of a few lemons until you are able to fill up around half a bowl. Get an absorbent piece of cotton, dip into the lemon juice, then apply the cotton (which is dipped with juice) equally on your facial area. Pay specific attention to the parts of your face which have the most scars, and apply the lemon juice conscientiously .
Second, avoid washing your face for at least 10 minutes. This will give the lemon juice enough time to work on healing acne scars.
Third, after 10- to 15 minutes, rinse your face with clean water. It is highly important that you simply pat your face dry, instead of rubbing your face against your towel. Facial rubbing causes a lot of small, “barely seen” skin damages. This can hinder your efforts when it comes to removal of acne scars. But when you pat your face dry, you are avoiding damage plus you are giving yourself a free facial massage (which relaxes the muscles on your face and improves blood flow).
